TSO vs Vidahost (or Microsoft vs Linux servers)?

I'd normally say Vidahost, but they're very much a Linux company, so in this case TSOhost will be the more experienced player. They're both hosted on good infrastructure, so you should find them both reliable.

As for keeping domain and hosting separate, the reason for that is that if you want to move, some companies will try to hang on to your domain with onerous transfer-out conditions and/or charges. Watch out for this - they may headline cheap/free domains but there might just be a catch if you ever dare to leave. I've been burned. :(

There are 'good guys' out there who either don't do this, or make clear up front what they do do. Recouping costs is fair enough, but excessive lock-in clauses are not.

To be fair, I don't think it would make a difference who you go with. Both are very good at their jobs. You won't be disappointed no matter who you pick.

Hang on. Do Vidahost support ASP.NET?
If you look at the web host page, it mentions nothing about ASP.NET.

I need ASP.NET so I went with TSOHOST, without any problems.

crazy idea....but how about emailing each of them and asking? :D

And if I'd of known Beansprout was anything to do with Vida I would have asked for a discount ;) lol

Can't comment on the windows vs linux side of things but for the first time in a year of being with them I raised two support tickets with vidahost recently and had both issues resolved within 15 minutes, couldn't recommend them enough.

Vidahost's response time to queries is phenomenal. I've had queries answered in less than 5 minutes.

I just don't think that they allow for ASP.NET scripts. That is the only reason why I didnt use them when I needed an ASP host, so went with TSOHOST instead.
