I find it sad that we have an anniversary silence for the 9/11 disaster which took 2700 lives, yet we dont for a tsunami which cost 250,000 lives.

I think many people in this country are too involved with all the festivities to remember how many lives were smashed apart two years ago.

RIP to all those that lost their lives :)

Anyone know any good sites detailing the aid effort two years on, piccies etc??

We do here :)

Well we normally do. I dont remember seeing anything about it this year though

Although i did sleep in until 4pm then went and layed on the lounge until 6:30pm so by that time the news had come and gone.

RIP too all those who died :(

I was in Phuket ( also visited Phi-Phi ) about 3 months before the Tsunami, the hotel we were in was right on the beach and got severely damaged and took 10 months before it reopened

We were in the US at the time of the Tsunami and didn't really see the news so were unaware of the scale of things

I contacted the parent compnat of the hotel afterwards and they said that everyone ( staff and customers ) at the hotel was ok though I'm not sure how looking at the location of the place

We are returning to the same hotel at the end of March

A terrible tragedy that hopefully will never happen again
