Hi all.

Bought this RAM recently to go with my 3800X:

https://uk.thermaltake.com/toughram-rgb-memoryddr4-4400mhz-16g-8g-x2.html

Do you think they will be a good fit?

I've been out of the overclocking scene for a while and having to learn all this again.

Having done some reading, as the FLCK cant go past 1900 easily, is there any benefit to buying RAM that is faster than 3800MHz?

This is all so confusing.

Stat's from a company that bin CPUs stated only ~12% of the 3950X they had reached 1900MHz FCLK.

I've owned 1x R5 3600, 1x R7 3700X and 3x R9 3900X, all hit 3733MHz 1:1:1, only 2 CPUs hit 3800MHz, everything in my testing was same except CPU.

Ryzen 3000 series best to run is Infinity Fabric:IMC:RAM (FCLK:UCLK:MEMCLK) 1:1:1.

When you go out of sync ie 1900MHz (FCLK):2000MHz (UCLK):2000MHz (MEMCLK) you'll note a latency hit (ie higher latency).

Only if you purchase a 3000 series CPU with 2 dies (ie R9 3900X/50X) and can OC UCLK:MEMCLK very high you'll never match the latency when keeping FCLK:UCLK:MEMCLK in sync.

Other thing to consider is what GPU you have. Lower end GPU you may not see the gains from higher speed RAM. Techspot IMO did a good article on RAM MHz scaling and used 3 differing GPUs, link. Be aware if you game at say 1440P or above you may see even less scaling.

Got some on my desk we’ve not stocked it as we found the quality not fantastic, not Samsung or Micron IC which is best for Ryzen and the RGB function seemed average.

Let us know what you think of it as we can get this stuff rather cheap as Thermaltake would love us to sell it but we’re quite selective with what brands we sell.

Ok. Thanks.

What would be the best RAM for my 3800X CPU with some RGB?

I’ve managed to run my FCLK at 1900 and only upped my SOC by +0.025

Not RGB, but if your CPU can do FCLK 1900MHz, I'd be considering those. I've had that kit, works well, only gripe was one day the spreaders fell off.

If it was me I'd probably get the 8 Pack 3600MHz ram as I bet they can do 3800MHz very easy with tight timings. (no rgb tho)

I have the 3200MHz variant and they easily do 3600MHz and if my CPU could run an FCLK higher than 1800MHz I imagine they can go faster.

I managed to get 1900 FCLK yesterday and then today with the same settings can’t get there.

Also got some G.Skill RAM to test. Ran that at 1800FCLK got better score on 3D Mark.

Bought some of these wondering what they could be if not Samsung or Micron, and hoping Gibbo was mistaken and they were B Die. He wasn't and they aren't - these are Hynix DJR. The only thing these do better than B die is high mhz, though the timings always suck. CL is hard limited, voltage doesn't seem matter it just does what it does. TRCD and TRP like being the same or within 1 of each other and do scale with volts but you have to push it hard. Interestingly these boot to windows at 1.85v without having to mess with maxmem and were still scaling. Probably sending them back, shame as they look really nice but they're not worth the £135 I paid. Can get 32gb of E die and a takeaway for that...
