Despite my skill and experience with Google search, I can't seem to find answers to this. The question is more specifically aimed at rowing machine workouts, but could be more general too. First of all, does tucking in the stomach increase the use of abs while rowing? Second, will it cause there to be too much pressure on the bladder?

 with any exercise you need to make sure your posture is correct.

I.e for me my current back problem is that it is curving too much and I need to move my pelvis forward to flatten my back when I'm working out. I can feel that working my abs but not quite sure what you mean.

And how would it put pressure on your bladder

i think he means something along the lines of holding your stomache in, what people typically do / mean when they say "breath in".

or you know... at the beach.. hot girl... you bring in that beer belly asap!

If you mean bracing your core then yes... but I challenge you to try and row without bracing your core!

I challenge you to find somebody that actually uses a rowing machine with proper technique. ;) :D

As FreeFaller points out, bracing your core in the correct position (depending on whether you're using the East German or Western technique) is the important thing: "tucking in your stomach" may be a cue for doing this, but it's a pretty bad one because it misses the point.

The rowing machine is just like any other machine. Some people do it right, some people get it hilariously wrong.
There are about the same number of people who don't know how to use it as there is that don't know how to use the stationary bike, for example.
