my mate has just bought some new audio equipment( new amp, sub and floorstanders) what tunes do people recommend for testing his new sub/bass out ?

thanks :)

Metallica - Metallica

My mate asked me the same question when he had just bought a HK Audio DX Actor 3200 watt PA system.
It sounded bloody immense.

i still maintain it is one of the most impressively produced cd's of all time. i played a few tracks to a few older friends on my system once, and the response was "wow, ive never heard it sound that good before".

if you want some material to stretch the system, look at these:

Metallica - Metallica.
Nelly furtado - childhood dreams. laugh all you like, but its got some fantastic bass in in the 20-25hz region. if you cant hear it, it isnt good enough;)

i did some frequency analysis of a few songs with very low bass, take a look:

then theres the Cranberries - No Need To Argue
The cure - All mixed up
erm...ill think of some more

Definitely Dead Prez - Bigger than Hip Hop.

Also one to try is Sigur Ros - Svefn-g-Englar

3 6 Mafia - Late Night Tip

Jamiroquai - Travelling without Moving
"""""""""""""" - Whatever It is, I just say it
^"""""""""""" - Too young to die.

It's all too easy for you to test your new setup with some big, slow, booming bass. What sorts the men out from the boys is fast, tight bass. That's what makes you sit back and think "nice purchase".

For this i recommend a bit of Making Bones by Red Snapper.

quick edit: Also check out Metalheadz

bass, bass, bass, low end, bass. Why does everybody always obsess over bass. Its completely absurd. The low end should compliment the audio spectrum, but never dominate it. Rather than trying to wave his audio penis (think chavs and their chav-mobiles) why doesn't your friend play some songs he actually likes to see how they sound.

which is why you wont see me focusing on it, but i did mention the ultra low stuff for a reason. it'll test any speakers or subwoofer, but its not necessarily over powering. you do need a decent setup to do it justice though.

in the op i did say it was to try his sub out, doesnt mean he is a modded saxo chav :p or that he has poor taste in music etc, he has bought new stuff and wants to see what it can offer :)
