Tune old wireless Microsoft mouse to new receiver?

Hello,

About 8 months ago I bought a Microsoft Comfort Curve 5000 Keyboard + Mouse combo. After a couple of weeks the usb dongle receiver went on the blink, rang up Microsoft and got a new whole bundle sent out to me very quickly. I stored the the first bundle and have been using the new one.

The mouse has now broken its wheel and I was wondering if there is a way to tune the old mouse I stored to the new receiver? It doesn't "just work" - have tried that.

I am guessing its not possible and there is some hard wired code in the mouse that matches that single mouse to the receiver but thought I would double check with you knowledgeable folk before splashing on a new mouse? The receiver is for both keyboard and mouse by the way.

Thanks

It's not silly. Just came back to say actually, no there is no buttons on dongle, mouse or keyboard at all. Apart from on the underside of the mouse it has a button that when you clip the dongle onto it to carry place to place it turns the mouse off to save battery. I have tried holding this down and such but no cigar.

Heres a video of the model I have http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NCZGmzwx-js

Right ok thanks everyone. The other reason I am after a new mouse is this one seems to be trailing a lot lately and running through batteries very quickly.

Can anyone recommend me a new wired mouse at £20 ish? I like having a wireless mouse but the accuracy in Starcraft is not great, especially lately when it trails and having the batteries die mid-game is quite frustrating.

Thanks again
