Can the supplied fan be used without the fan controller?
I'd rather let the motherboard do those duties, possibly with a fan resister.

I'm sure that if you removed the controller the fan would just run at full speed.

yes it would, unless you get the motherboard to control the supplied voltage to the fan, which is what the op was asking lol

Yah looks like the one - not terribly professional but handy if you want some pointers on how to fit it.
Edit - seen another somewhere with more detailed fitting instructions.
