Yes you would need to remove the motherboard to fir a TT but it is a damn good bit of kit keeps my Q9450 @ 25 idle and 37ish under load. Not sure i would bother getting the one with the led fan as you have to really look to notice it but it is a very good cooler and i think you would have to remove the mobo for the TRUE as well. Arctic freezer 7 pro i think uses the push pin method same as intel stock and will give you good cooling.

do you know if the thermalright coolers require a backplate i dont think they do but would like someone to confirm before i order?

i have just seen that you have answered about the thermalright (TRUE) i have read the reviews on the overclockers page and nobody states about removing the mobo for a backplate

can anybody confirm this please?

With the TRUE you have to remove the mobo. A review of the SI-128 on DriverHeaven says that you don't need to remove the mobo from the case :)

hi will the si28 cool my B3 Quad better than my AC7Pro?

Yep, almost certainly. The AF7 Pro is good value for money but it's not exactly high end air cooling, the SI-128 should be a lot better.

EDIT: Just read a couple of other reviews of this cooler, apparently although you can install it without removing the motherboard, the reviewers said that it was such a PITA to do that they just removed the board in the end anyway.

not with a SI-128 , well as far as the reviews go in the OCUK page under the review for SI28 somebody writes that no mounting backing plate comes with this cooler

well as El Jimben says it comes with clips for a 120mm fan... you could probably get away with a 92mm fan with some cable ties... tbh dont know why you would want to though as for similar performance the 92mm fan would be louder than a 120mm...

yes just a thought that noise would be quieter with a 92mm my mistake. I have ordered the Thermalright SI-128 with a akasa 120mm fan thanks for all your help
