Tuniq Tower heat issue

Bit of background first: p4 2.8 was originally installed on an old MSI board which had a smartfan setting in bios which took it up to 4000rpm which kept it at under 55ºC load, 35ºC idle. Could not OC at all on this board so bought an Abit IC7-G which doesnt have the same smartfan setting so would spin at around 2600rpm constant - by adjusting using speedfan could get it up to 4000rpm but did not make much difference to temps around 50ºC idle and up to 65ºC load. Recently it became unstable at these temperature so i just installed tuniq tower.

Now running at idle 45ºC at 2000rpm, 52ºC under load. This seems pretty high to me given that most people get sub 30º at idle. Could it be the mobo reading wrong? I spread AS5 evenly over the CPU, should i just use a line/blob, would this cause the problem?

Are you still on a P4? they run hot. Tho mine old p4 ran at 28 C idle on my ultra 120

P4s are normally very hot. Especially if its a PresHot.

those things were good to around 90 degrees + so dont worry about it mate.

Well it was running at under 40ºC on stock cooler at 4000rpm on my old MSI mobo so i'm sure it is supposed to be cooler, also there is computer instability (freezes) under CPU load after 10-15mins :confused:
