Well Ive been trying to find a decent/quite and cheapish cooler for my E8400.

After all the reconmendations and good reviews I went for the Tuniq Tower.

Ive been playing around with overclocking my processor, and so far my stock cooler has performed better with temps at higher clocks.

Currently my CPU is sitting at 3915mhz it will idle at around 27C Socket temp and 33C on each core. However as soon as the CPU gets 100% load it shoots up too 55C socket temp and 59-60C on each core, this is with the tuniq tower on its lowest setting of 1100rpm.

With the tuniq tower on full speed the temps only drop down to 57C 57C.

Why is this? It deffo isnt a case problem at the minute as its sitting in a Lian Li PC7 with the front and sides off.

Why am I getting such poor results with this cooler? I applied OCZ freeze thermal paste the way Artic Silver say on thier site..

Thanks

Yeah. I did have trouble fitting it TBF. All screws are done up but I guess they could be tighter, although surely that wouldnt make that much difference?

Will try reseating a second, will update with temps.

What temps are you getting up load? @ Clairvoyant

In the process of removing mobo, looks like the thermal paste is not very well applied...

Right, reseated, temps are still the same...

EDIT, one degree difference between hi setting and low setting :S

Something isn't right there.

I use a TT120 with a Q6600 at 3.1 and it maxes out at 48 degrees. I swapped the standard fan for a 800rpm jobbie and lapped the cpu and cooler. Even before lapping it didn't reach 60 degrees.

How was the base of the Tuniq?

I will take some pictures of the base tomorrow, although it seems fine. The cooler feels cold to touch, even the heat pipes at the base arnt even warm. I have a couple of temp probs poking in around there at the minute, and even there not going above 29C, rest of the case is 20C at the minute.

hmm..

What volts are you putting through the CPU.

I cant remember the temps I was getting and cant seem to find any I posted.

Could be concave slightly. Try lapping it, and also the CPU if you're willing to void the warranty (tbh you already have after clocking it).

Yeah, it was meant for the ram... Right!?

It seems to be doing some cooling at least, Ive clocked it down to 3.6ghz now its idling 5C under my case temp

Case = 23C
CPU = 18C

However this is not the case when I dump it on full load... CPU = 36C, My maths is'nt that great but thats double the temp? Only pushing 1.2vcore through it now.

Will try lapping it when I get some sandpaper, wont be doing the CPU tho... Dont fancy sanding a week old processor, even if I have overclocked it...

you need to ignore the idel temps really, as if the sensors a stuck then they will give fasle readings.

My cores are like 55/59 under 100% load (I have the older version stepping) idles are 34/44.

vcore is 1.39 in bois about 1.36/7 in windows (if I remember right).

So as long as your temps dont go over 60c really you are fine.
