I have been tinkering quite a bit today to see i f i can get to 3.6Ghz on my
Q6600 with little success.

I have a few thing against me like a VID of 1.3250 and a third core that keeps giving me a rounding off error after 30mins of prime95.

Now i got up to 3.25Ghz using a Vcore of 1.41 but the temps got quite high ie. 69,69,65,65.(measured using coretemp)
My idle temps are usually between 32-35c.

I use at the moment an AC7 pro for my cooling needs, my case is Antec P182 with all the fans on low.

My motherboard if relevant is the Asus P5K Premium.

My question is this, is a Tuniq tower going to improve my temps over the AC7 or do i save for a while and go water?

Any input would be appreciated.

I really believe 3.6 could be had with adequate cooling and sufficent voltage, i know all kit is different but i have faith. I will say i have post at 3.4 before now and got into windows, but other than reading emails i couldn't really use it. It failed prime95 after approx 0.235 seconds.

Good question, I'd be interested in an answer for this as I have the AC7 (not pro... it's old :P ) and thinking of upgrading to a TT.

Have you lapped your CPU? Did mine yesterday and it dropped my load temps by about 10 degrees on 2 cores but the others are still high (the CPU is flat!).

the pro7 is good but it doesnt come anywhere near the tuniq tower,i brought the tuniq tower as recommended by people on here and what a difference,my temp's went down loads and my 6600 which is at 3.1 now sit's at 22 idle and 35 under load, another factor of temp's is your case as well.
buy the tuniq tower as it a awsome bit of cooling kit....oh !...by the way.....change the stock fan on the tuniq to something like sharkoon like ive got which is good and quiet.

TT will give u some more headroom.. but that doesnt look like the best clocking Q6600 I dout it will make it to 3.6 without you pushing 1.5vcore which will give u some serious temps on a TT

TT , is one of the best aircoolers,IMO

my room is hot- 20ºC and i get this temps
system and cpu overclock: 69%

cpu idle

cpu in full(TAT)

at present the normal TT isn't in stock at OCUK. the LED version is though, but that is nearly 50 quid, which is more than a TT is worth.

i'd say get a thermalright ultra extreme and pray it's flat (or lapp it)

I got a brand new TRUE from the bay recently and I have to say that I'm impressed at how flat it is after hearing so many horror stories but perhaps I just got lucky, there's always lapping as you say :)

OP: I'm currently using a TT and so far im really impressed. I have similar room temps as you and i was wondering if you have ruled out memory related issues? With your setup and vid, you should be able to easily get to 3.4. You can also reduce the multiplier and up the FSB to work out you max fsb. This will help to ascertain as to whether something else, such as memory is getting in the way. Also, you load temps look relatively even so you probably don't need to lap.
