Hey guys, I've got a holiday to Tunisia in 4 weeks time

My second visit to the country after I went years ago with my parents after finishing sixth form college.

I've got my tickets ready to pick up so it all feels really close now, however one question I do have for anyone whos been recently, is about exchanging money. I know its a closed currenty in Tunisia, wheres the best place to exchange money over there? I'd say the airport but I can imagine a lot of people exchaning money there once they get off the plane. Does anyone know if the Hotel Kanta in Port el Kantoui still does money exchange?

Would really appreciate any help.

Fantastic place Port El Kantaoui but I wouldn't wander out of it.
My eldest daughter has been 5 years on the trot with her mates because they all think the Tunisian lads are hot.
The hotels that she's been in have exchanged money and the one I stayed in.

Yes, why not? Its a gorgeous place, and if you do the right excursions you get an amazing experience.

I went there over Christmas it was fantastic. Most places now freely allow you to exchange funds. Chances are if your own hotel won't allow you to - then there'll be one around the corner/not far away.

Odd question - why does the country have a closed currency? :confused:

Yeah it is good, we're going on the 4 day safari where we get to travel around the country visiting the old colosseum, star wars set, grand mosque etc.

Not sure why the closed currency, I asked if they still had it in place in the travel agents, and they said yes but didnt seem to know why. Maybe trying to stop tourists bringing forged notes in to the country.

No, I'm saying that my own visit (including several cities/towns/beaches) was so rubbish that I would never want to go back there. I'm sure you're right that bits of it are great, but I visited the most well-known areas and they were all rubbish.

So by my own personal experience I would not want to go back there.

Also, almost everyone I've spoken to who has been there has had pretty much the same opinion. This thread is actually the first time I've seen anything positive said about the place.

Suppose it depends on what you go there for and what interests you have.

I've been already and loved the history and culture of the place, and I've spoke to a few people who have been there and had similar good experiences.
I'll admit some of the cities aren't great, Sousse in particular on the outskirts is rather run down, but when you get to the centre and the more historical areas its a great experience.

I'm going again this year with my girlfriend, and I believe my parents are going on there own later in the year for a third time.

I have an admiration for the culture, way of life, history etc so really enjoy visiting the country so I prefer it to places like Ibiza etc. I'm just not a clubby drunken holiday kind of person

Just picked my tickets up from Thomas Cook, its been a couple of years since I've been abroad, are the flight coupons they supply in the booklet the airline tickets? Last time I got airline tickets they were a lot more detailed and had about 3 copies of each, a lot more complicated.
