I am everywhere...
Hi all, i was gonna do this on the annivesarry of his death but i totally forgot :o Anyway, the idea of this thread is to discuss the man, the legend, prohet, poet, rapper, actor, thug, one of the greatest rapper ever...Tupac Shakur.

Tupac Amaru Shakur (June 16, 1971 – September 13, 1996), also known by his stage names 2Pac and Makaveli, was an American rap artist, actor, activist, and poet. He was listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the best-selling rap/hip-hop artist ever, having sold over 73 million albums worldwide[2], including over 44.5 million sales in the United States alone. [3] Most of Shakur's songs are about growing up around violence and hardship in ghettos, racism, and sometimes his feuds with fellow rappers. Tupac is known for the political, economic, and racial equality messages in a lot of his work. He has been ranked by many fans, critics, and industry insiders as the greatest rapper ever.[4][5]

More info HERE

Let discuss his life, lyrical prowness (anyone alive better than him?), Your favourite tupac quotes and lines etc. What are your views on him or what do you think about the whole tupac thing.
I am not an expert on tupac, but i will try to contribute an answers (if possible) many question as i can.
Please, dont post here if you just wanna derail this thread or dont have anything constructive to say.

Constructively, I don't think he'd be held in the same regard were he still alive. Still good.

You are right, i sometimes think that way too - I imagine if MJ was dead shortly after the Thriller's album people will probably be saying "...MJ was great if only he was alive...he would have acheived better or greater"....Hope you see what i mean?

Having said that, i think he might be bigger than now if he was still alive, Just imagine the music he would be churning out....

More wannabe-gangster posturing?

Not a fan. At all.

There are far better out there.

...and most of his 'fans' hadn't hear dof him when he was alive...

I love you penski! Tupac was never a wannabe or gonna be gangster, He was more of a thug (he called himself, thugs more than gangsta). You dont have to be a fan to appreciate his lyrical skills, foresight and his presense in the Rap industry.

I dont see how you can justify your statement! He had a massive following, his death also brought him to a wider audience no doubt.

As for those better than him out there, i guess it is very subjective. He did almost all known style of rapping during his time - Eminem's nose rhyming (i.e laying empahsis on the rhymes via his nasal cavity), Run dmc style, Nas poet recitation etc. In the words of Shock G "He rhymes from the pit of the stomach and no one yet is able to emulate that...."

just never been able to get into him. no doubt he's inspired a lot of the big current Rap/Hip Hop artists (not necessarily a good thing), and he's very well-respected, but i've just never really liked him as much as some others.

Best thing I can say is that I enjoyed Above The Rim(the only film I've seen Tupac in) and California Love is an awesome tune and video, Changes is not too bad either but other than that I'm not overly enthralled I'm afraid.

I'm also extremely dubious about his lyrical output over the past 10 odd years since he died, most artists don't get anywhere near the volume he has put out(or rather has been put out in his name). I wouldn't be particularly surprised if there were a few Tupacs kicking around recording for his past umpteen albums as I doubt that anyone would have stockpiled enough music(of sufficient quality also) to have produced as many albums as he apparantly has.

What you are forgetting is that the only contribution a dead artist can make to a song released after their death (assuming it wasn't recorded before they died) is the lyrics.

It wouldn't be that hard to simply take existing lyrics by a dead artist and create a whole new song around them. A recent example being Nasty Girl by Notorious B.I.G.

Above the rim is/was a good film and i remember when changes was released and all i do was cry in a night club :o. That's cool man, i dont expect everyone to like him or like every stuff of his. :)

See this is the problem and to some extent, i agree with you. If you listen to the album eminem produce (loyal to the game) **shudders** they actually fakes his voice, i remember one track where tupac apparantly said "G-Unit" and "Obie Trice", Now correct me if am wrong, pac never had anything to do with these guys and none of them was on the map when he was alive....Oh well the album was a sham in my view.

There is a guy called Black Haze...He sounds exactly like tupac, no difference - When i downloaded an album of Black haze, i honestly thought it was pac. Having said that, all indication showed that he was a prolific writer and spend plenty of time in studio to fight the demon in him.

EDIT
Some of his lyrics are cut and rejoined so as to make sense and sound different to what he said before e.g changes was a collection of some his lyrics iirc.

El, I just don't like the guy - I don't think he can rap. At all.

And whomever has been cutting and pasting 'his' songs together since he kicked the bucket has very poor flow.

Even Frontalot's a better lyricist than Tupac.

Thugs (alternatively written "thugz"), in the hip-hop/gangsta rap sense, are persons who are ruthless and who will do whatever it takes to get what they want. The term also carries the connotation of living a rebellious life and being prone to operating outside the established status quo (particularly the law). Thugs share the same principles commonly associated with gang members: hip-hop-inspired thugs believe they are entitled to whatever they can get and keep through street cunning and physical force, having no moral compunction against theft from and robbery of those not known to them or part of their 'posse' or 'clique'. Loyalty to one's friends is a strong value among thugs, but if there are disagreements between two groups of thug friends, the two factions can behave in a way similar to rival gangs, even if they are not technically in a gang. Violence is applauded in the thug lifestyle, especially among middle-school and high-school aged thugs, and often in the form of "jumping" a victim, (several thugs attacking a single victim).

OH HAY COOL!!!!!

Ash

PS: I hope this thread is a joke in a poor attempt to live up to some pathetic stereotype.

I like some his music. He wasnt the be all and end all of rap. Hes mainly remembered more for being "controversial". There always has been and always will be better rappers out there than him.

Who the **** talks about music with comments like 'LOL THUG NOT GANGSTA'.
That isn't music... It's ridiculous...

Replace 'thug' with 'charver'.

Basically, someone who acts like a complete and utter winnet on the anal beard of humanity.

I remember getting Strictly 4 my N.I.G.G.A.Z when it first came out and playing it non stop, to me this was when he was at his best.
Holler if ya hear me - what a tune.

If you can get to watch a film called Tupac: Resurection, you may slightly change your opinion of him, he wasnt a wannabe just said what he felt which was sometimes not to everyones liking. The guy cant rap about Boats, big houses rolex's etc.. if thats not his life experiences. plus he recorded loads and i mean ridicolous amounts of songs after he got out of prison as he felt he didnt have long left.

He was a great lyricist, now im not saying the best or the most creative, on that Canibus is probably the most imaginative but you got to look at the bigger picture the guy rapped about his mum, to his life, to woman, ghetto life etc... Canibus for example raps about nothing in perticular and uses words that are not common to hip hop (lets say big words). Who sold more, who related to more people?

Its a shame we now have this fool 50 cent, damn Nelly and all them stoopid people who call themselves rappers.. The guy put out some truly good hip hop tracks and in my opinion All Eyez On Me was prob one of his best albums...

It is a shame when poster see the need to just try their very best to just make a thread go where it wasnt intended. I wont bother replying some post in here, am gonna contact a mod to get the post removed - It clearly states in the OP, if you dont like it then dont join in.
