Hi guys,
I recently got a laptop with a GTX 660m (2gb DDR5) and an i7-3630QM @2.4Ghz
I ran 3Dmark program and ran task manager cpu monitor and I made sure the Integrated Graphics was enabled for the 3Dmark program, anyway my clock speed never reach over 2.4ghz maximum according to the cpu monitor where it should reach over 3Ghz?
any idea what is going on ? also I think the fact it won't turbo with the nVidia gpu active is BS and this should be made clear but is not when purchasing! *****RS!!

thanks for any help :)

oh also would the CPU running normally @ 2.4Ghz be a bottleneck for gaming or would it still keep ahead of the GTX 660M? (trying to squeeze ultra settings on Borderlands 2 but its a bit choppy)

Calm down chap, how do you know it ain't user error? :p

I assume it's plugged in to the mains and set to performance mode?

I have the same processor and a GT650M which is the same card at a lesser clock. Mine runs at 3.2mhz peak.

If not download throttlestop and set the multiplier to Turbo. This should then max out at 3.2 and stay at that

I will download throttlestop, I just wanted to see if it worked at all , and with integrated graphics running it should turbo fine, but did not go over 2.4Ghz. I will have a fiddle with throttle stop then. ty

Disabling Turbo Boost when the Nvidia GPU is active is a common "feature" in some laptops. Instead of including adequate cooling, they decided to reduce CPU performance and heat by disabling Turbo Boost.

Glad you discovered ThrottleStop. It gives users a way to choose if they want to use Turbo Boost or not so you can use your Intel CPU at its Intel rated speed.
