I need a couple of implants, specifically the lateral incisor and canine, which are pretty important ones.

I've had two quotes in the UK, £5500 and £6700! I keep hearing about going to Turkey to have them done to save some cash...anyone have experience doing this? I get the whole finding reputable places, etc, but is it worth the hassle/saving (potentially £3000+??) - I assume they'd need to be 2/3 trips too, with how the process works.

Any knowledge would be appreciated.

And no, I don't want a BBL, etc, whilst over there :)

I looked in to it a while back, they effectively grind your teeth to stumps and cover the little leftovers with veneers, which is why so many people look like walking piano keys. Mine aren't bad enough to justify that yet thankfully.

I guess my title was misleading. I don't want veneers or anything like that. Implants are what I am after, so my teeth will be removed prior, and they will stick their implant and crowns in.

I know various people who have gone abroad for dental and/or cosmetic surgery multiple times. They seem very happy with the results and have been very complimentary about how good the private hospitals were over there, though you'll always get the horror stories on the news like with anything.

My friend just had a tooth pulled in Romania while we were there for a short break before Xmas, saved him hundreds and again was very complimentary about the dentist.

I was always under the impression implants need a bit more in the way of after care, follow ups etc. Not sure if I'd be confident doing implants in Turkey tbh, the money saved would soon evaporate if anything went awry

I only have 6 upper teeth left!! One is the last remaining chewing one....

I don't want any replacements. Luckily the front top teeth are still there so u don't see the gaps!

Anyway, no way would I pay thousands at my age....(62)...

Yeah I'm not sure I'd stomach going to Turkey for dentistry just to save 3 grand. If your quotes in the UK were coming in around 12-15k then that's a substantial amount that could be saved.

Ah yes, sorry I don't know about those. There must be a reason Turkey's famous for it though, plus it's an awesome excuse for a nice holiday. Just get the teeth done last so you're not eating Mediterranean food in discomfort!

It's not something I'd want to cut costs on because if done wrong it will look horrendous and it's not as if they are just round the corner for after care.

I think I'd want to do a serious amount of research first. An implant strikes me as quite an invasive thing so I'd certainly want it done properly.

Yea Turkey teeth as the thread is titled, is usually veneers no?

I had an implant (premolar, next to right incisor) over two decades ago, cost 1500 quid in the UK. It was not fun and around 8 months to complete.

Visit 1. Knocked out, old stump removed, Drilled in to gob / jaw and inserted the anchor pin, filled with "cow bone goop" or somesuch and stitched up. Face looked like a punch bag for 5 days.
Visit 2. Returned 10 days later to get the stitches removed and checked.
Endured 8 months with an unsightly gap in gob while the bone / anchor point repaired.
Visit 3. Carved out a hole, removed anchor cap and screwed in the implant.

No idea if the process is now different or accelerated but I would not chance it if the difference is a few k.

Given that even properly fitted dental crowns using the correct materials need replacing after 20 years, one wonders what remedial work budget dentistry enjoyers will need in the future.

If your Turkish implants ever need a revision because of failure no UK dentist would touch them with a bargepole unless they could remove them entirely and replace them with
their own. I suspect the cost of that removal and replacement would be considerably more then your current UK dentist quotes. I think the current failure rates for UK implants are about 2-3% which is certainly
not massive but I can't imagine that can be extrapolated to the Turkish offerings which are something of an unknown quantity.
