Need some help please. I have this image which is a scaffold tower.

I need to turn it into a vector image which can be used as art-work for printing as part of a company logo on a set of football shirts.

Does anyone have the software and more importantly the skills to help me out with this please? Any assistance would be gratefully received.

Holy messy image to work from :p.

Does this look ok to you? If so I'll send you the vector version:

It's hard getting the width of the beams to be equal, I've never been able to get this part right in Illustrator without using strokes on a single path :/.

Both - many thanks for your replies. Chaos - I'll give this a whirl to see if I can get myself self-sufficient for doing tis type of thing again.

Pho - that looks to be spot on, fantastic. If you could get me a copy of the vector file that'd be great (my email is in my sig below). How did you do this in Illustrator, was it difficult? I must see if I can get a copy and will have a crack myself.

Both of you - your help has been terrific - many thanks

I think you'll need a much cleaner image to automate it. I was going to try something called live trace in Illustrator which can automatically trace an image into vector but it didn't come out well - even after I tried to clean it up a bit in Photoshop first.

Basically I traced around the outside edge of the image with the pen tool which gives a silhouette of the whole shape. To cut out the scaffolding/see through bits I traced around those bits individually with the pen tool again. On the image above each red line is a separate path to be cut out.

Once I'd done that I used the Pathfinder / Minus tool to subtract all my little windowy bits from the main silhouette leaving me with a single shape. From there I just cleaned up the edges a bit to straighten them out as much as possible and that was pretty much it :).

I'll email you the vector/illustrator files if you prefer, what email do you want them going to?

Excellent - could u email to - [email sent so email address removed.]

Many thanks.
