Hey all,

How do i change it back?!

the picture shown is not my laptop pic. I put the pic up to show which screen was displaying the wrong message.

Wht ai was trying to say was that on the picture above, where it says "turn off computer" my display has a different message.

The logon screen is managed by 1/2 executables, LogonUI.exe and Winlogon.exe; you'll have to open both in a Resource Hacker and search for the text entry he has put in, change it back then save and exit.

Both executables should be located in the Windows folder although I've not used XP in this long >>> [size of the universe].

Then call the guy an eggface ^_^

If you google "changing your XP logon screen" (or similar), you will find plenty of resources to help fix this... or better still, change the boring screen to something more interesting.

the button works fine, it's the actual prompt that has changed

"turn off computer"

is now

"Time for home is it John?" - (My ******* instructor was called John!)

So first we'll edit LogonUI.exe file:

1.) Open %windir%\System32\LogonUI.exe file in Resource Hacker and navigate to String Table section.

2.) Here you'll find sub-directories, 1,2,3,4,7, in which only first 3 directories 1,2,3 are of our use.

3.) Following are the locations of some interesting text entries, which you will like to change:

...

Turn off computer : String Table -> 1 -> 1033 -> 11 & 12

Oh, it isn't the computer name is it? You can change that in system properties and when you do it says Turn off <computer name>
