I have just got back into a bit of PC Gaming. I was wandering if there is a way to automatically turn off the second monitor when i start a game?

I have a 34" ultrawide 1440p as my main monitor and above i have a 27" 1440p 16/9 directly above it. When i have a light background on the upper secondary monitor on during gaming it tends to blind me a little while i am gaming. I could manually turn it off but its a bit of a pain every time. I was after a way that could blank out the second monitor when a game fires up and comes back to life when i exit the game.

Anyone else have this issue and have a simple way to do this without manually turning it off and on..

without manually turning it off and on..
no clever tool or script can beat just reaching and pressing the power button
with added benefit of less load on gpu
at least win11 is now much better in putting windows back to original screen when its turned back on

The load on the GPU is pretty tiny for multiple monitors, the only time it becomes significant is if there are multiple 3D applications/models running on the additional monitors.

I might just look at a darker wallpaper that is not so in your face as my current one.

Try windows key + p key

Alternatively
Record a macro of manually doing it
In settings
Then set macro playback speed really high
Then put the macro on the taskbar
One click macro does it for you

I use displayfusion and setup a bunch of shortcuts to flick between various monitors (as I have a sim rig I turn on and off through it)

Thanks for the replies. I actually ended up using a darker background on that monitor or had OCUK forum on dark mode in that screen. For some reason if i switch the monitor off or disable it the frame rate on my main screen tanks.. Weird.

Use HDMI for the monitor you want to turn off - then you can physically turn it off and Windows doesn't realise and doesn't mess about changing the Desktop. You can turn it off and then just back on again at any time without any interruptions or weirdness.
