Do you know for a fact that you will have compatibility issues with Windows 7?

If it is just for software, you can run XP in a virtual machine. No need for multiple inputs.

well my printer/scanner won't work in win 7, so xp will have to 'control them' but how do i transfer between virtual machines? (this would be using window's own virtual software)

as for the multi-input thing its not really an important 'day-to-day' thing for me it's more if someones round and we want a play something multiplayer I don't really want a 2nd pc just dedicated to this purpose

There's a few systems in our self-help HR room at work that are actually a single PC - not sure exactly how they work, but the keyboard, mouse and monitor are connected to a small box that resembles a KVM but it's not. The actual PC is in another (secure) room. So I know it can be done.
