My partner has an old iPhone 4 with a small crack in the screen that I want to use as an iPod touch. It doesnt have a sim card in it anymore as this went into her new 4S and the battery is currently flat however I wondered if I charged it up, would it turn on and function without a sim card in it? I think it was originally on t-mobile.

Thanks in advance

So you don't know what network your partner is on? Are you sure you didn't "find" this iPhone? Heh.

you only need a sims card to activate it, once activated you can remove it and then turn on airplane mode if you wish. Prob best to just sell it and get an ipod touch unless its a dodge one.

No its my partners but she only just meant she still had it. Just asked her and it was on tmobile. Going to stick it on charge now, shame about the pink cover lol

All charged up, sort from the crack screen, everything is fine. Works a treat, guessing as its already been activated with her old sim card when she had.

Thanks for the advice

Clearly a stolen phone. obvious, stolen obvious

For once I agree with you Jimz

LOL you lot, thanks but I think can afford an iphone or two, but you dont get money by spending it, so using a spare iphone as an ipod saves £170 as all I need it for is my running app. My Windows phone does everything else.

Unlikely to be stolen as I know James and he is probably just going to use it as an iPod in his new car!

Thanks Skully

Actually agree'd with Jimz until Skully vouched.

It does sound dodgy when you asked if you could do it without actually trying something so simple to put the lead in the charge and try it.

Glad you got it sorted though.

Yeah can see what you mean, the only reason I asked was I was at work when she said she had one spare, so I couldnt test it until I got home. Thanks for all the advice anywho :)

I give it a few week until you have the sim in it, and using it ;)

You could always replace the screen yourself or take it into one of those high street fixafones places to replace it. Could cost up to £70 but then you will have a nice new "IPHONE + IPOD".

Last year i was going to by a touch but then went for an iphone which gives you the best of everything. Get yourself a cheapish tariff from o2 or something for around £20 a month or less.
