I moved from virgin media to sky recently and as the modem/router I was sent had default security settings that are incompatible with the nintendo DS, and since I didn't want to mess around with the settings (and I'd already set all of the other devices to connect to the router with it's current setting) I decided to use the wireless router I had connected to my old internet connection as a wired/wireless switch, but this has gone into doubt since when the wireless started acting up after I disabled DHCP (it could've just been that the wireless on my iPod touch being stupid like it always is).
After thinking about it I decided to do a bit of googling and found what I could call a little known feature in windows 7 called virtual Wi-Fi, but I'm not sure if this would work on my laptop (acer aspire 5551) even though in is running windows 7 since I'm not sure of who manufactured the Wi-Fi card (if you can call it that) since the driver list on the acer website shows 2 manufacturers (Atheros and broadcom) and I'm currently not using that laptop so I can't check.
I did get the information on how to set things up, but what I need to know is if I can set this up without a password (since the information I found mentions setting up a password) since it's only going to be on for a short period of time (enough time to do what I need since I don't play any games online on my DS).
And just so everyone knows I don't want any extra programs running so don't suggest connectify.
