Turning off DHCP on netgear router

Guys I have a linksys wireless router and a netgear rp114 4 port router. Reason I need to use the rp is for my print server, its to far away to hook direct into my wireless.

So I currently have my linksys hooked into the rp114 which runs via cat 5 2 pcs / print server.

Laptop connects wirelessly.

Due i need to disable DCHP in order to let wireless print through it?

You don't need a static IP Address from your ISP to allow you to use fixed IP Addresses in your own house. DHCP is purely a convieince thing which makes it easier to add more PCs to a network. As long as you stick with the private network addresses of 10.x.x.x or 192.168.x.x etc

The main thing for Dinsey to avoid is running two DHCP Servers. :)
 
Just tryed to get access to the firmware of the netgear wirelessly, cannot get into it (can access it via cat 5 okay).

Have turned of DHCP, do i need to assign a new ip in the RP114?

If the RP114 is the router, yes it will need it's own IP Address. This is mainly so you can mess around with the configuration page as the Access Point itself is "invisible" to your network.

So you will have:

Linksys Router (192.168.1.1)
Netgear Access Point (192.168.1.2)
Laptop (192.168.1.3)
PC 1 (192.168.1.4)

etc

(Obviously exapmle IP Addresses...)

The Gateway for all of these is the Linksys Router on 192.168.1.1
