I have a couple of external HDD's hooked up via a USB hub (ran out of ports on the pc) however they stay active when the PC is switched off.

Is this because the Hub has external power supplied to it or is the USB still "live" from the PC.

Basically how do I go about getting them to switch off when I switch the PC off?

Im 99.99% sure that you cannot. It runs from the +5VSB line on the motherboard. This is because USB can be used to 'power on' your PC. My card reader has a blue 'on' light. Its always on, even when the pc is essenntially off.

Put a switch on the power line into your usb hdd and turn your power supply off from back button on psu works for me..:)
