Hi All,

In the next few months I'll be moving into some other student accommodation and this time they have wireless and not wired ethernet. I have emailed the landlord who says that installing Ethernet is not an option :( seriously bad times.....

Network hardware I have now:

Belkin N1 Vision
Netgear WGR614v9
8port Gigabit switch

Devices I want to connect up:

Desktop - with no wireless
3 x laptops
1 x netbook
Blackberry

I still want to use my switch which will go into the Belkin but then how will the Belkin connect to the internet? Is this possible at all or will I need to invest in another router?

By the way the only reason I want to do this is because I want my own network away from everyone else where everything is faster and more secure, having my own wireless using the Netgear would be pretty cool as well :)

Hopefully this all made sense to some of you and you can shout out some pretty good ideas to get this all working :)

Sorry I should have also said that I do not have access to the router or access points that are located around the house.

Therefore plugging in a powerline, which would have been a great idea, can't be done :(

Thanks for all the replies, I think that DD-WRT is the way forward with this however none of my routers are supported. Therefore can anyone recommend a wireless N router that would be fully compatible with DD-WRT??

Cheers again, Tom

Hi Gary,

Picked one of them routers (revision D4) up for £20 brand new. Hopefully it will do the job just fine.

Could you post some instructions on how to set up the bridging once I manage to get DD-WRT on it?

Hopefulling flashing it with DD-WRT shouldn't be too hard :/

Thanks Gary, if only there was a way to give heat or points to people on here! You've been really helpful!

Excellent! It will do exactly what you need! I've got one sitting next to me that this computers bridged through :D

Flashing it was a piece of cake :p I'll put together all the instructions, download links and settings you need!

Hi Gary, got the router yesterday and managed to flash it, however I'm just testing to see if I can bridge it up to my current network however no matter how many guides I follow I cannot get it to work, can you post some instructions on how to bridge it up? Cheers, Tom

Hi Gary,

I've tried all the settings I can and cannot get it to work. No matter what tutorial/instructions/guides I follow it just wont connect up.

Any suggestions?

Yeh I tried the status page with no joy.

I'm also around all weekend too, cheers for helping :)

Hi,

I've added you to WLM.

I just used the version that was on the DIR-615 page, so I'm guessing the latest
