Am brand spanking new to overclockers. I'm wanting to enter the turntable world as I have never owned one. I only have a small budget of around £400.
I am hoping to add or upgrade as ai go along.
I've been using Market place and gumtree to gauge prices and look at diff brands.
I was thinking of £200 for turntable. £200 for speakers.
I already have a denon amp. Which am hopeful can be used.
The set up is going into my front room. It's only used really at weekend ls by myself and wife. Quite a large room as we live in old Victorian property.
Any makes models you can send me off to research that you maybe reccomend as good starting point.
I totally understand my budget is pants but everyone gotta start somewhere and I am realistic in terms of quality etc.

Turntables aren't my thing, but you have direct direct and belt drive turntables.
Fully auto, semi auto or fully manual types

You'll need a phono stage somewhere in the chain. Some turntables have them built in (you might be able to enable/disable this feature) - or they have dual outputs.
Or you have a dedicated phono stage box
Or one inside your amplifier, it'll say "phono" or something.

At your budget you're looking at moving magnet type, moving coil is the more expensive type.

Usual makes like Project, Rega, Audio Technicka, Technics

At £200 available for a first time record deck, your only real option is second hand. Even then without doing proper due diligence you could still end up being very disappointed with a purchase.
If i was starting out now with my first purchase i would be looking at a Rega Planar 1, if my amplifier had an inbuilt phono stage. Or a Rega Planar 1 Plus, if my amplifier had no inbuilt phono stage.
As "first toe dipping" you need to be fully aware that cost of ownership of a Vinyl front end is very high and isn't something that should be approached with a view to keeping it low budget.

Thanks. I am looking at a planar plus as we speak. I also am getting my head around passive and powered and upgrading being made easier if I go down the passive route.
Maybe I need to keep saving and increase the budget.
So far I have been listening to my music on my back room using Sonos gen 1 theatre playbar and play ones etc. To me although dated and old it sounds good.
I suppose I'm looking for a true crisper sound but also love the idea of buying vinyls and sitting back listening to full albums instead of stream flicking.
I'm 100% going down the used route and am aware of the risks involved but have always done this to keep costs down.
I'm hoping someone out there is due an upgrade and I can buy a maybe used and dated system set up which will do the job and get my toes wet.

The good thing about the RP1 and RP1 Plus is that if you find that you are falling in love with LP's, it's not a big hit to the wallet to move them on and find something better.
In the world of audio there is a saying that "rubbish in = rubbish out". That is even more true now than it ever was in the past. What Denon amp are you planning on using ?

A Rega would be my starting point for a new/cheap setup. Good call on that.

Does your Denon have a suitable input for a moving magnet cartridge? Most turntables don’t have line level outputs, ie pair of RCA pushing out typically 1-2volts, as per a CD player.
