I thought I'd try it out without the drivers first just to see what the difference was like and I can see why people scream about downloading the drivers

Playing Battlefield 3 was amazing, I found it better in 5.1 than 7.1 however. Music is amazing too.

Corsair 1500's? Did you research the cracking problems? I would treat them with kid gloves, don't take them off by hold the ear cups, only hold them from above the swivel joint on the main band, otherwise it is only a matter of time before they break. I have the 1300's which replaced my broken HS1A's which broke in the way. If anything the Vengeance series are even worse. I am being very careful with these.
