tutorial for user input to php?

Hi,

Can anyone point me to a good book/tutorial on how to send a user selection (drop down form) into a php variable so I can populate another form?

I don't want to use a submit button so do I need to use ajax?

that entirely depends on how you are going to move the user from 1 form to the next

methods available are probably gonna be post, get, or some flavour of ajax.

I was thinking of having 4 drop down boxes that would filter my database down as you moved from left to right on eah drop box. Then the 4th drop box would allow you to select results then print from my database for the user to see

yes ajax is the way to do it, then you write a php file to return the variable data, just look around for a simple ajax tutorial or script.
