dont no if its tv or my 360 doing this.

i have 360 connected via component running at 720p

my xbox doesnt have a hdmi and tv has no vga connection.

what happens is this:

when it should look like this:

to fix it i have to switch the tv input to something else then back to component and it only happens when in game menus or ingame xbox menu, never when actually playing.

anyone had this happen to them?

Looks like a zoom or alternate aspect ratio function of the TV has kicked in wrongly. Does your remote have a button to switch between varying ARs and zoom levels? Might be worth pressing that a few times to see if it goes back to normal rather than switching the input. Not a resolution, but would give an idea of what is actually happening.

On another point; Castlevania: Lords of Shadow = Awesome.

That's probably the cause. Sometimes when switching to game menus etc, the TV picks up the change in signal incorrectly and reverts to the wrong AR. Seen it happen occasionally.

Keep it set to manual 16:9 and you should be good. :)

What game is that?

One of the best 360 games, sadly not as popular as it should be.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadows

Amazing game, truly brilliant. I need to get round to playing the DLC. I am halfway through my 3rd playthrough, I want it to be my first game to get 100% achievements.

As for the aspect ratio, it's the only thing. I would try a different channel.

its only started happening since the weekend, has been fine since i got the key 12 months ago.

Unless it's unique to this game it could *possibly* be an early sign that the scaler/gpu chip is going in your 360, when mine started to die I got all sorts of strange stuff happening like 'unsupported frequency' and 'no signal' errors along with the odd corruption, I actually thought my TV was faulty at the time.

setting the aspect ratio has solved the problem, it hasnt happened since.

one thing i did change:

i was on 1080i but i recently changed it down to 720p

could this be related?

my tv doesnt want to accept 1080p thru component :(

i also gave up on castlevania, it was to slow at doing things like climbing etc and i got bored.
