Been looking to build a media centre and I don't know much when it comes to TV cards, so I was wondering if someone could help me out. It will be temporarily used connected to a monitor not a TV, is there anyway I can connect a game cube to the media centre? I will list my requirements below, however if there is a better alternative they can change.

I have an analogue signal/no freeview box at present, however I will obviously have to get digital in the future so supporting this would be necessary. I might consider upgrading to freeview now if necessary.

Must be PCI,
Compatible with MCE,
PVR,
HD ready, not sure if this would matter on a TV card but would like to use HD in future

Would I be able to use sky through a freeview card?

Budget £150

Cheers

i dont think a freeview can recieve sky signals.
if you really want sky i suggest you get a TV card with a video input and plug a skybox in there.

as an alternative to the TV card, if you have a laptop you can get a USB one and you it where ever you go.

150 should well cover the lot if you have a dish. TV cards are only around 40 quid nower days.

If you want to connect a game cube to a digital (freeview) TV card make sure it has Analogue Capture. Several of the ones at OCUK list this in the features on the manufacturers website.

You might consider getting a dual digital/analogue tuner and another seperate digital tuner. This will allow you to watch and record two seperate digital channels as well as another anlogue channel. The analogue card will also definately allow you to use the Game Cube.

Something like the following two would do (please note I don't know how good these cards are as I havn't used them myself, only going by the specs):

GX-001-CP Compro VideoMate DVB-T300 Digital & Analog TV Internal PCI - Retail (GX-001-CP)
£39.95 £39.95
GX-000-CP Compro VideoMate DVB-T200 Digital TV Internal PCI - Retail (GX-000-CP)
£29.95 £29.95
Subtotal £69.90
VAT £12.24
Total £82.14

Would the Hauppauge WinTV PVR-500 Media Centre Edition Dual TV Tuner (GX-028-HA) be unsuitable?
