TV Card question

I have a Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1300-MCE card and running Windows 7. When I installed windows 7 it automatically installed several drivers. I have not yet installed any other software to make use of the card.

In Gibraltar, I am not sure why, our reception of digital channels is DVB-C even though most of the TVs and hardware we get (which usually comes from Spain or UK) is DVB-T. When I bought the card and my TV, I had no idea about this and both are DVB-T.

So I was told a good solution was to get an external DVB-C receiver and hook that up to the TV and the TV Tuner.

I bought a Technisat DIGIT K3X (http://www.technisat.com/indexa630.h...B_C_,en,67-433) and have set it up on my TV, found the channels, etc. However, I am not sure how to hook it up to the card and how I would go about capturing video in order to record programmes. My main aim is to be able to schedule recordings of programmes I usually miss when I am out.

I have a converter of some sort that is SCART on one side and has 3 connections on the other, yellow (video) and red/white (audio). Is it just a question of connecting the SCART of the Technisat box (labelled VCR) to the TV card using that?

Would software such as Media Center or other PVR software be able to show the channel being selected on the box and record it? I guess by using the card just as a capture card not not the tuner I would lose the ability for the recording schedule to choose the actual channel right?

I read some reviews by experts & customers alike who pretty much said that the HVR-1300-MCE was a bit of a pig to get working properly. Also, did you browse the disc to see what software was on it? I'm not saying USE it from the disc, but get the name of it and try to see if the manufacturer has a download of it to the latest specifications, especially if you discover it might actually be relevant to your needs/requirements.

Why them both? Surely the TV would work regardless, right? I admit I know nothing about what the TV's there need in order to pick up TV signals, but as for the TV Tuner card, well, read my thoughts/ponderings below.

You say, "the card", but what card exactly are you referring to? "hook it up to the card", surely you don't mean the Technisat, so what DO you mean? Do you mean the external DVB-C receiver?

Did any of your new hardware not come with instruction manuals? If they're not in English, then that's hard luck, but you could always use an online translation tool to help you. (Google translate is pretty good). Just copy the text printed on the page and type it into the translation part and press Translate. If there were no manuals, then have you tried looking on the manufacturers websites for a downloadable one or is there not one on the accompanying software on the CD's/DVD's?

I know WMC has the ability to allow you to choose a time to record programmes from, (with its TV Guide), but if it's not being used, (ie only being used as a capture card), then I suspect the record function in WMC will be inoperable, but I may be wrong if someone else has better, more technical knowledge.
