TV card/ software recommendation

I've got a Hauppauge HVR-1300 off the bay recently, but it turns out not to want to play with anything. I just got the bare card- no software or remote.

First, is there any free software that I can use to use my PC as a TV with this card? I want to plug the Sky box into the PC and just use my monitor as a display (*it's bigger than the mrs' telly!).

The card is detecting in Windows 7 and I have latest drivers, but windows media centre won't let me get past the "No IR unit detected". I'm assuming this is to get me to buy one of their remote controls. I can see the signal from the sky card is getting though. As I only want the PC as a display, rather than using it as a tuner, is there anything I can do?

Otherwise, can anyone recommend a decent and cheap TV card I can use and software to go with it?

I don't know why you're getting that error because i don't have a remote connected to my pc and i can use media center fine with the keyboard.

Sounds a bit ass-backwards to me.

Why not just get a SCART to VGA converter cable. Google shows them available for under £10: http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=sc...s=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&client=firefox-a

It's flagging that there's no IR unit because it's thinking that you want to control the Sky box from the PC - with full programme guide etc.

What you need (as you've not got that) is it to simply use the card's analog input and display it, by going via Media Centre it's trying to control everything.
