TV has eARC Soundbar Arc only - DOLBY ATMOS / DOLBY VISION issues

Is there a solution to this anyone ?

My Hisense 85U7KQTUK Tv has eARC , my older but excellent sounding HW K950 Dolby Atmos Soundbar only has ARC .
When I run my streamers direct into the TV and then hdmi between eARC (TV) and ARC Soundbar, I'm getting Dolby vision top end pictures but zero Dolby atmos (the feed definitley has both and the badges appear top right of screen )
Yet, When I run the streamers direct into the sound bar , I get Dolby Atmos , but I then lose Dolby vision ,I then only get HDR/10/+ (and no badges appear on screen )
Is there anyway I can get dolby vision and Dolby atmos or is the ARC Only HDMI out on the sound bar got me beaten ?

Thanks all

You will need both devices to be E-ARC capable to get the HD codecs. Otherwise you'll just get Dolby Digital and DTS.

The other method as you've found is connect your sources to your soundbar then video out from the soundbar into your TV.

So the second option of streamers into Soundbar and out via Arc on Soundbar to TV = TV not recognising as DOLBY VISION feed ? So the sound bars ARC doesn't have the CODEC to recognise / Transmit DOLBY VISION ? .ie Netflix , won't show the dolby vision badge on the film / prog as it sees the device it's connected too (Soundbar ) can't transmit DOLBY VISION ?

It's a soundbar E-ARC, and E-ARC TV and DTS TV issue. Not all TV's output DTS on the digital outputs, not all TV's have E-ARC.

ie a couple of LG OLED dropped DTS out on a model range but the next gen versions brought it back in. If your TV doesn't support DTS and E-ARC, and all the codecs, then don't use ARC/E-ARC output.

My LG C9 supports everything on the E-ARC output so I won't run into that problem, and my AV pre is E-ARC capable. I don't use E-ARC anyway, everything goes into the AV pre amp then onto the TV.

But the Soundbar is ARC only ..Tv eARC.When all are linked to the TV (SKY , Netflix , firecube etc ) they recognise dolby vision and Dolby Atmos.Feeds as does the TV showing all.badges1 on Netflix and the TV and i. Get dolby vision images. But if I'm not getting dolby atmos from sound bar , so is it not the ARC restriction on the Soundbar that is the limiting factor ? Rather than the TV that's got the correct feed , got eARC Bandwidth ..but hits a roadblock passing to dolby atmos ARC only.Soundbar connection ?

So.wbere can I intervene with an amp to.get DOLBY atmos into my Soundbar while I'm getting my dolby vision image also ?

To get everything working using TV ---> Soundbar audio, you need

TV to support E-ARC
Soundbar to support E-ARC
TV to support DTS, Dolby HD, DTS Master, DTS X from the E-ARC output

If your kit doesn't meet all of that, then connect sources directly into the soundbar then HDMI-TV just to get the video. You can still use ARC for the built in apps, but you'll only get regular sound

Your TV supports EARC on HDMI

why soundbars are crap. Don't support everything and when they don't you have to junk the lot. They're landfill.

Not enough I/O to get around the problem, and HDMI

Factor in 4k 120hz for consoles, VRR, that means whatever you have have to compromise on something- unless your sources have dual hdmi out, so you can bypass the soundbar for video sending audio only.

Brilliant find...

So I either update D Atmos soundbar for eARC - probably another £750

Or that guy has purchased some form of converter to get DV & DA £400

Or, what's my option to not create landfill...surely amps and speakers end up incompatible too no? Do enlighten me.. Im open to suggestions.

Converters probably cause more problems. You either have to choose whether you want the sound, or picture - compromise on one. When I had a 1080p screen with 4K source, and non HDMI AV pre I could still get full advantage out of it, as I went direct to TV for video (for 1080p) but use omboard 5.1 decoding to get HD master then 5.1 RCA out to processor, or digital coaxial out for the regular DD/DTS mixes.

In the best situation your sources should have two outputs from each source. That's a problem as consoles don't have this, only some BD players- so you will have to compromise. What's more important, sound or picture?

HDMI 1- video directly to TV, so you get HDR, Dolby Vision, 4K 120hz, VRR, freesync etc etc
HDMI 2- sound directly to soundbar so you get all audio codecs, DTS, DD, Dolby HD, Atmos, DTS Master HD, DTS X etc

If you get a AVR which is capable enough (HDMI 2.1) EARC you get around all issues, you can connect consoles to the AVR, that will past all video systems, and will also decode everything.

You can still use HDMI-HDMI from TV to AVR (same cable) just to get sound from the TV apps from the TV to the AVR, but that is just secondary sources, all your primary sources go through the AVR.

That's why I dislike sounbars, they change something, or you change the TV and E-ARC is dropped, and you've got compromised system. With a AVR even if that goes out of date, everything else the 5.1 speakers will work with a new AVR.

That's great info ...but based on links you've sent and further digging there are HW K950 Users who have seemingly bought £50 hdmi convertors that will extract dolby atmos from TV feed and create an eARC path ...So may try give that a go to prevent any landfill and keep utilising a great speaker set up.

Take a look at the hdfury arcana, I think that will help you, it sends audio directly to the soundbar and video directly to the TV.

I would avoid the cheaper knockoffs. You can usually pick up a good deal for the hdfury on eBay.

Not cheap, that could go into proper system and won't have hassle of dongles and work around boxes.
