Well, I have a Panasonic 42 inch tv (can't remember the exact model) and I would like to know if there's anyway of using headphones/earphones? I ask as I can't watch tv late at night as people are in bed.

I've tried to 2x RCA Phono Male to 1x 3.5mm Female Jack Socket but the sound is just awful and I couldn't watch tv with sound like that.

I'm not sure if this can be done but I hope there is some way around it. I've got a set of Z-5500 speakers that are hooked up with my sky+ box via the optical connection but that's at the other side of the room unfortunately. Not even sure if this is of any use.

Any advice appreciated :)

You could output the RCA phono to a headphone amp if you wanted, that might make the quality a lot better.

Are you sure theres no headphone out? I have a 42" panasonic plasma which has a headphone out and i don't think there are many which don't!

This is the correct solution. The voltage and impedance from the phono sockets isn't right for driving headphones directly. But a headphone amp will take care of that and give you a way to control the volume level if it can't be done from the TV.

You need to do a little research of your own, but I found a Behringer HA400 for less than £20 which might be a good place to start.

thanks mate :) Does the headphone amp just connect via the Red and White RCA sockets?

Also, the sound when I connected the Y Adapter was quite distorted/crackly... would the amp fix this?

Yes, the headphone amp would just connect to the RCA sockets.

I would imagine the crackling would be down to the reasons Lucid stated. The best option would be to order one and then send it back if it doesnt help.

You'll probably need an adapter cable - phono to big headphone jack. I've pointed you in the right direction. Like I said earlier, it's now time for you to do a bit of your own research. Have a look on Behringer's web site. I've downloaded manuals for some of their other products. I'm positive there will be a manual for this amp. Have a read.

I've already answered that. Marvt74 spotted the answer. Please have a proper read of what I wrote earlier. :)

Well, I think the best option is for buckeejit to have a read of the manual, then speak to the retailer who is going take his money and make a profit (albeit a small one) on the sale and who stands to lose money if buckeejit can't figure it out when he gets the gear.... Yes, I definitely think that that is the best option :D
