TV Licence payment

We recently paid our tv licence and chose the standard monthly payment.

So far however we have been charged £48.50 a month for the months of October, November and December plus this month we have paid £12.18 :confused:

If its £145.50 yearly cost, why have we paid £157.68 in 4 months :confused:
 
You pay so your 6 months ahead. I.e, mine was £24 a month for 6 months and is now £12 a month now I'm 6 months in advance. Not sure why though.
 
That doesn't sound right. When paying by monthly direct debit you pay for 12 months in the first 6 months. So you're meant to be pay around £24/month for the first 6 months then about £12/month from then on. £48.50/month isn't right. If you contact them about it then tweet them as the email and phone people were utterly hopeless when I sold my previous house and wanted to cancel the license and get back the 6 months in advance that I'd paid for.

Maybe it was because its the first time I have paid one :confused: Either way, if its £12.13 a month now its out the way

I paid for it the first time in my name a short while ago and it was double as others mentioned, which is normal, but not sure what happened there.
