TV Licence Super Thread

The BBC in its entirety needs to die.

I had threatening letters and ‘we attended and missed you’ cards through the door on a property I was selling and was completely vacant, after I had told them I had moved. And after paying for a license at that address for 13 years. I rang them in anger and they weren’t interested.

At the moment, I essentially get the license free due to the 91 year old mother in law, as the license covers our property but there is no way I’ll ever have one again.

I keep getting letters saying they are going to visit on X day, they never show up. I got one last week for a day which was 2 weeks earlier lol

I think my area is to middle class and not that near one of their offices.

Mine was about to renew, have watched probably 6 hours of "normal telly" this year, rang up to cancel it and had to go through the motions with the guy on the phone.... Anyway got a follow up email confirming the address doesn't need one & £175 saved :D

Got a letter yesterday reminding me that if i "watch tv" i need a tv license. Despite me declaring already i do not need one.

I do "wach tv" but i DO NOT need a license, how misleading to write if you watch TV you need one....

They're just trying to scare people into getting one when in fact people don't need one if they don't do any of the things that require one.

It's their method of getting people to pay the TV licence these days. Out of fear.

I'm still betting it's going into council tax soon.
I don't think it can go into broadband. It will be difficult to administer.

I see ITV are in talks with Sky about selling their TV arm. Hardly surprising as they seem to have a death wish and have become the Hamas Health Ministry news service lately.

What is the justification though? They'd be forcing people to pay the licence, something that those who have cancelled do not even need.

The justification is "too big to fail".
No one is going to let the BBC fail. The only alternative is to make it a tax.

The government was fine breaking up and selling off public services, so they can do it with the BBC. Which isn't nearly as important.
They won't. I'm surprised anyone thinks they will.
I'd put money on then rolling it into tax if someone would take that bet on

I’ve had 3-4 letters through recently, even though I told them online that I don’t need a license. The letters basically say:

“Previously you told us you didn’t need a license but this may have changed!!! Blah blah”

**** off, stop filing my letterbox with ****

Being harassed like this over the damn television, it’s ridiculous.
