Hypothetically speaking, If one of my kids randomly put on Freeview or whatever its called and started to watch live TV on the TV in their bedroom, unknown to myself or the wife, and we get a visit from an Enforcer and they manage to see or hear my kid watching live TV, what happens there? Does my kid go to court? Do we, as parents?

Disclaimer, we dont have a TVL, we dont watch broadcast TV, live tv apps are not installed on any Tvs. I may sometimes accidently click a link in my web browser and a football match might appear (no idea how I manage that, silly mouse button clicking finger)

Youd likely be held responsible.

Games or Youtube and Streaming services at night along with Amazon Prime. What's the point keeping services that are no use?

Amazon Prime streams live TV channels too. That makes proving you don't watch live broadcast TV problematic, (if TVL get a search warrant), even if you don't connect your TV to an aerial or satellite receiver or have any other live TV apps running on it.

TVL might get a search warrant before taking legal action, or they might just go ahead and prosecute. They would prosecute the first resident adult who opens the door to them and identifies themselves to them. That's why more women (73-76%) than men are prosecuted. Because stay-at-home mums answer the door to them during the day much more often than men. Also, TV license evasion accounts for roughly 30% of all female prosecutions for criminal offences!

Live TV apps are pre-installed on all Smart TVs and they aren't always easy to remove. Live TV channels are also streamed on websites, so the 1946 TV licensing concept is just idiotic in this day-and-age.

when he gets to a 100 letters he'll get a card from the King, or a putty medal.

watched some minutes of secret sevice on itv, from regular netflix prodn company ... another poor remake of Spooks.

I’ve not received a visit letter from tv license for a while. That’s quite disappointing :(
No emails, chase ups, letters or visits in over 5+years. I would have to dig into my archives to see just how long it been since there last contact. Think I have got rid of them for good at long last.

what's the deal with viewing world cup matches (assuming Iran & jet fuel co-operate, rip Italy.)
do you need freely to receive some additional channels for some matches as some oif the tv adverts seem to imply

will the need for a tv license been revoked for them if they are being shown on youtube by the bbc / itv too

The BBC and ITV can each show five World Cup matches in full on their YouTube channels and the first ten minutes of every game, as part of a new deal agreed by Fifa.

Fifa has told rights holders that they will be allowed to show ten of the 104 matches on their accounts on the streaming platform in full. The idea is to appeal to younger audiences for whom YouTube is often their main viewing platform.

The BBC and ITV are holding internal discussions about the idea of using the platform and are giving it serious consideration. If they choose to take up the offer, they will have to agree which of their live games they want to show on YouTube in full, and then go to Fifa for final approval.

Can’t see that happening, but who knows with this looney govt.

How on earth could they justify that?
