I got a MSi RS482M4 with tv out on board and i can't get it to work 100% correct.

What happens is that the picture on the TV is fine until i get past the loading screen of windows and then it just goes black on the TV. I have gone into the bios and selected PAL for output and TV as first output device.
Is there anything i should enable in the ati control panel before hooking up to the tv?
Any ideas lads?

God damnit i have only gone and made it worse now. I went into the ATI control panel with the pc plugged into my monitor and went through the wizard to make the enable tv out. I did that and then plugged the thing into my tv and still no login screen after windows loading.

So i went back and plugged it into the monitor and lo and behold i know also get a blank screen after the windows loading as it thinks i have connected a TV.

Windows itself is fine, i can use my MCE remote and i can hear the login sounds etc.

What can i do now?

if you cant get any display what soever then you could try removing the card, then starting windows, then shutting down and putting the card back in, might reset the properties. before that try booting in safe mode.

well in safe mode go to device manage unistall the driver and then in windows (normally) reinstall it

Argh ok thanks guys for the help so far.

I can now see the desktop on my monitor but still i can't hook it up to the TV with S-video..blank screen after the loading bars. :(

Have you ticked the "extend my windows desktop to this monitor" that is on the normal Windows Display Settings page?

Does the Ati contol panel recognise a Tv is attached? Have you told it that it is a PAL set? And keep that resolution down to 640x480 while testing. Though 800x600 should work.

I have a GeForce 5200 in my TV PC. That has a Sony 32inch connected on S-Video using 800x600. Also make sure that the TV is really in S-Video mode as it makes all the difference for the picture. (Hunt around the TV's own menus for this)

I don't have the monitor and tv connected at the same time so i got no clue if it shows up :(
Ahh... can make it trickier. So.. get them both rigged up together, then this will let you see what is going on. Once you have got it booted up and the second screen showing, you can then use the MS display settings to change the "number 1" screen to be the TV.

No point in guessing blind... even if it means hauling your old monitor over next to the TV/PC during setup. :)

Ok i have now got both the TV and monitor hooked up but how do i switch between displays? Nothing shows up on the TV.

  • Right click your desktop.
  • Select Properties from the menu.
  • Choose the settings page
  • Do you see two screens here?
  • Highlight the second screen
  • Tick the box to "extend my windows desktop to this monitor"
  • Hit Apply
  • You should see the image on your TV
  • Choose resolution of 800x600 for the TV
  • Use these same tick boxes to set your TV to the primary screen

The rest should be easy.

You must make sure your TV really is selected on the correct AV channel. And you must make sure it is set to S-Video / S-VHS depending on the cable you are using.

Cheers for the reply.

Tried all that, but my tv just flickers a couple of times and goes black again..:(

Refresh rate of TV? Don't ask for more than 60hz

Maybe the version of the drivers?

Could be problem with S-Video / SVHS inputs? Have you ever used these before?

Have you got other leads to test?

Have you tried other inputs? (Often there is a SCART or two on the back and the inputs on the front of the TV)

Have you found the TV's own menu for changing between video types?

Can't suggest much more.

Got the latest and i have tried the ones on the cd. I have used the inputs before they work fine, so does the cable. The problem is after the the windows loading screen(the display drivers load) then it switches to the main CRT.

I have set the TV to the correct mode but still i just get the flickering for 4 seconds when i try to enable the second display.

:(

Ok guys, i got the tv out working but the thing is every time i want the pc to output to the TV i have to manually switch the displays in ati catylst control panel to get tvout on the TV.

How can i get it to output to the TV without manually doing this? It's irritating as i don't have a monitor next to my TV and this PC is only going to be hooked up to the TV.

:(

Sorry to hijack but I have a laptop with S-video out and if I plug it into a scart adaptor and plug it into a TV it comes out in black and white. Is it possible to get it in colour?

Look into the TV's own menus to get it to show "s-video". Or get a better quality S-Video to SCART adapter (they are not all wired up the same).
