Tv program warnings on content: OTT or fine?

Every program these days seems to come with a warning on it's content. Violence, some violence, might contain violence. (don't understand that one) contains scenes of a sexual nature, some nudity, might contain scenes upsetting to some viewers, might contain nuts, (OK the last one does not appear yet!).

But it seems every program is subject to these warnings some seem highly unnecessary. M.A.S.H. It is set in a hospital so chances of blood and also it is set in a war zone so again there is a good chance there will be blood.
Then we have the news we are warned often that some viewers might find scenes upsetting. Who are these people that watch the news not expecting to see upsetting scenes perhaps they should restrict their news watch to Newsround on CBBC or something.

No program is safe from these patronising statements and I suspect in due course we might see warnings that a program contains un-pixelated children another oddity that seems to have pervaded the TV news though not always so I suspect it is done on a whim rather than some company policy.

Rant over.

Warning : this topic may contain graphic descriptions of spleen venting.

:p

We need a warning system....

:p mild venting
:p:p graphic descriptions of spleen venting.
:p:p:p gut wrenching, spittle ejection, coma inducing rants
:p:p:p:p stroke material
:p:p:p:p:p you'll come out of this with a holiday

Great film though.

The fight scene to the elevator is a favorite of mine. Like a 2D scrolling beat 'um up, and it was filmed in one take.

Every program .....? Rubbish, I can't remember the last time I watched a program where they gave a warning of that type. More like the OP tends to watch the sort of programs which have that sort of warning and hence has a biased view of how often they are given.

Warning, This film contains strong bloody violence and scenes of a sexual nature.

Good oh, that's why I'm watching it thanks for the recommendation :-)

May contain mild peril

This is a good way to let you know what will be easily suitable for a 3 or 4 year old, and what is suitable for a 6 or 7 year old.
Things like Nemo and Rio can cause some distress at points for the younger age. A film such as Tinkerbell doesn't as it wasn't designed to have the mild peril.

May contain mild peril

I've heard something to that effect on Syfy before.

The best one I've heard was also on Syfy, before an episode of Eureka and warned "this programme features supernatural scenes and is intended for entertainment only".

As opposed to being for educational purposes?
