Hi

The current UE65KS8000 has been deemed a write off, and John Lewis are proposing replacing with the QE65Q65T.

First time ive had to use the insurance on a TV - is this normal practice?

i.e. the replacement is around half the cost of what the KS8000 was, and is the replacement model around about the same sort of TV?

Cheers.

I'd say that's fair yeah, you're getting a QLED instead of an LED so you'll notice a vast difference in quality straight away.

When you insure anything you generally aren't insuring the purchase price but rather the cost to replace it with a like for like model and there's 3 years difference in the models so it's about right.

Thanks.

Have the option to pay the additional and get a better one. Reading good things about the LG, so may fork out the extra.
OLED65CX5LB.

If you're happy to pay the difference that's an excellent option, there's not much if anything on the market right now that'll give you better a better experience.

It's a bad deal, a very bad deal

The KS8000 is/was QLED already so you're not getting any upgrade, in fact they're offering you a significant downgrade because the 65 is literally the bargain basement of Samsung TVs and even though it's newer it is worse in almost every way

Insurance is supposed to be like for like, so you had a series 8 Samsung they should be offering you a new series 8 Samsung. That's why you pay insurance, don't let them rip you off and take you for a ride

Wrong the Q series runs different from the numbers you refer to.

Also they upgraded all the series in 2020. So an 8 series 2020 set would have been a 7 series in 2019. So again even an 8 series wouldn't be a like for like replacement based on historical 8 series TV but we will use that anyway since it's what you state is like for like it should actually be a 9 series from 2020 to be equivalent.

Going back to the Q series. You get 8 series and then you get Q8 series as well.

So he's being offered something different a Q model which is better as it's QLED.

Going by your logic he should be getting offered a TU8000 which is an 8 series TV and retails for around £700 new in 65 inch. The TV he has been offered retails for around £1000 new. So what would you choose your like for like 8 series for an 8 series or the more expensive TV that's better but isn't an 8 series?

So your advice would be terrible for him to follow im afraid. They are putting him in a far better position than he currently is in.

As I said, he already had a QLED so he should be offered the equivalent which is the 8 series (Q80T)
The Q60T is the bargain basement QLED TV

It was obvious that I was not referring to the non QLED lineup as I clearly said it should be like for like and his existing KS8000 is QLED

That TV is now 5 years old. The Q series only launched like 2-3 years ago.

The fact is the ks8000 doesn't have a Q in its model name. That should tell you something.

The equivalent model therefore is the tu8000. See how both model names look the same?

Because tu8000 is the replacement for this year. The Q60, Q70, Q80 and Q90 were only introduced recently.

The abbreviation "QLED" is more recent
QLED TV's used the full "Quantum Dot" naming for the 2016 KS8000/KS9000/KS9500... It's still QLED

It's not an 8 series it's a Q series he's been offered.

The tu8000 is the direct replacement in terms of series for series.

The Q series was designated for their FALD range not QLED range

The TU8000 is not a QLED panel so the TU8000 is not the direct replacement for the KS8000 (regardless of age, the TU8000 panel is far worse)

You are arguing over nothing... Basically being pedantic because I called it "series 8" instead of spelling out word for word that I was referring to the Q80T...

The Q80T is FALD not QLED.

The Q Series was introduced for FALD TV's.

Show me a Samsung TV that is FALD and doesn't have a Q in the model name?

You don't know the naming convention.

Also the tu8000 won't be worse. It's a decent panel. However yeah it's not a true 8 series as the equivalent would have been a 7 series the year before but it's still decent.

The Q designates their FALD range. Albeit the Q60 doesn't even have FALD however every FALD released has been a Q and their other TV's have been the normal old naming system which his original TV falls under.

None of that is relevant to the OP being offered the Q65T, it should be the Q80T

As for FALD without a Q... KS9500 from 2016 - Quantum Dot (QLED) with FALD

The naming system was for advertising purposes from 2017 onwards so people understood if they were purchasing a QLED or not... Samsung updating their naming system shouldn't mean the OP has to settle for a lesser product as a replacement. And yes, the TU8000 is a lot worse than the KS8000 was, just check rtings for a comparison. Brightness, blacks, colour gamut etc. Overall the image quality and features of the KS8000 puts the TU8000 to shame.

Like I said originally, which you're decided to argue against without any merit. A like for like replacement of the KS8000 Quantum Dot (now referred to as QLED) TV, from the current lineup, is the Q80T.

The Q80T is a FALD tv.

That's not a like for like replacement.

Also testing methodology has changed at rtings so need to take scores with a pinch of salt.

The TV he has been offered is also a Q so he is therefore by your argument getting a like for like replacement
