Please move this if it is in the wrong place.

I am planning to build a HTPC for gaming/movies in the very near future.

I have been testing XMBC on my girlfriends laptop to see how it works (impressed so far) but have noticed, when I connect her laptop to the TV through HDMI the screen is a little too big by about an inch or so when the screen resolution is set to 1920x1080. If I change it on the laptop to 1366x768 it fits perfect.

So just wondering, if this is the same with the HTPC once built, will the quality of the image be lacking at this setting compared to the 1080?

You'll need to change the settings either on the laptop or your TV. Depending on the graphics in your laptop will depend on how you can do it. On your TV you might have a setting for 'Display Area' or something similar, if it's set to 'Full Pixel' it should fit the screen properly. Obviously depending on your TV it might be called something else.
