TV Signal Issues

The tenants in a property I help manage are having trouble with their TV signal. I used to live there (and I actually installed the aerial in the attic) and we had no problems using a signal booster. They get no signal at all, or some but very bad/sporadic, and they're using a Wilko powered signal booster.

Aside from going doing the costly/faffy route of getting a TV aerial person in, what can I do or get them to try?

Better signal booster? New coax cable from aerial? Different coax cable to the one they bought/are using?

Unfortunately I don't have a TV or Freeview box I could take to rule out an issue with their set either but they've got a flatscreen with Freeview HD etc so I doubt that's an issue?

Thanks in advance.

Do they have access to the attic? Perhaps they've knocked/moved the aerial if they've been up there. Have they tried without the booster? I've seen cheap boosters make things worse as they amplitude the noise as well.

Yes I told them to check the aerial and cable connection and they said all was fine. And yes to no booster as I recommended they try that so assume they didn't have one before.

The quality of tuners can vary massively. I bought a top up TV box when that came out and got virtually no reception, replaced with a cheap goodmans box and got all the channels, then replaced that with a different recordable box and lost the channels again. It may well be that the tuner in the cheap TV isn't good enough.

If it's in the attic they may have knocked it out of alignment. Also they can be very susceptible to rain if they are behind a roof and the weather has been poor lately.

Yeah this is my worry. Unfortunately the area has no cable and you can't have Sky dishes up, so although a crap situation if it is their TV/box then there's not a lot I can do!

I would ask an aerial man to take a look personally. The tenants will appreciate the fact a professional is taking a look and trying to rectify any problems.

With his test equipment, it may only take half hour to find/fix the fault

I'd do this a new install done properly want cost a fortune and will need zero maintenance for 20 odd years or so which isn't a bad return on your investment. B2L properties need to be hassle free and worrying about little things like this isn't good business!

I'm going to buy a different Freeview HD box and go around tonight and take a look at everything myself to rule that out, then get someone in if it's still bad. Can take it back either way but at least it'll rule out an issue with the aerial/cabling.

My experience with tradesman lately is terrible, not in terms of service just in terms of lead times!
