Hi,

I just bought a WinTV Nova-T PCI card. Really impressed with it. I am using an indoor aerial with it, and did a channel scan. I was greeted with about 41 channels, all the freeview lot included, even though I don't live in a freeview area! Unfortunately they are only watchable quality if you physically grab hold of the aerial. They just stutter otherwise.

I want to just watch terrestrial TV - channels BBC1 through to channel 5 - which I should be able to get in good quality here! However , it only seems to search digital channels.

Is there a fix, alternate software, or hidden option that will let me just view these "regular" channels?

I'm pretty sure it's the digital ones being shown at the moment, as BBC1 is the same frequency as BBC3, and from the same transmitter, at the same quality. I should be able to get it in ace quality from a nearby transmitter, not this one 50+ miles away!

Sorry for the long post.

Cheers in advance for any help!

Ah, ok.

Cheers!

OT, but what can I do to increase signal on an aerial then? Tin foil and wire type affair?

I mean, freeview is perfect if I'm touching the aerial. I just need a bit of a boost to stop it stuttering whilst I'm not touching it :)

I can't, it isn't my house to put an aerial on, it needs to be transportable, and I don't have money.

Can't I make something in a Blue Peter fashion, out of cardboard and tin foil? With a bit of glue and some crepe paper?

Gah

Yeah, that's what I've got. I was after a way to improve it. I think I'll try making a big foil sheet tommorow, that could do the trick.

Even just hanging one coathanger off it just now made it almost good enough. It's nearly there, just needs a liiiiitle extra signal!

But is yours suitable for use with digi? A lot arent. You can get ones with built in signal boosters too. They work very well.

Yep, got a digi one with a signal booster.
Done some fine tweaking just now and got it pretty good - it just stutters way too much.

You could try getting an extension for it and moving the aerial closer to a window, worked for me.

Checked your postcode on the freeview site? Some areas just arent covered or covered very well.

My area isn't covered at all, I'm just lucky in that I can pick it up from a neighboring area.... just.

It is next to a window, mm away.

All I'm saying is - according to the freeview guys and the internet, I shouldn't be able to recieve freeview. However, a quick scan reveals between 40 and 70 channels (inc. radio), and many of them are NEARLY watchable. All I'm looking for is a way to give my signal that little bit of extra boost.

I already have a booster. I was looking for a Bill'n'Ted method involving bodging something out of tin foil, or wire, just for that TINY bit of extra reception.

EDIT: If it helps, my aerial is a One For All, with built in booster.
Looks like this one (well, very slightly different, but same shape and make).
