I've had a look at a few past threads and have come to the conclusion that the Compro cards are pants and that the WinTV Nova TD 500 seems pretty good.

However, what if I wanted HD? Is it worth it for the extra? I've seen the WinTV Nova S2-HD recommended recommended but it only has one tuner?

I'm just after light shedding. Thanks :)

Have to say, my Compro E700 has been great, haven't had any problems with it, it's way better than my previous tuner. Plus i've found the dual tuning to be invaluable, since I record a lot of things onto my pc, and often they overlap. I'm running vista 64 btw.

Well, the Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-4000 HD Quad TV tuner is very nice card - that's if you can find a online retailer that has them in stock.

WinTV-HVR-4000 features:
* Quad-mode TV tuner for your PC. Watch and record:
* DVB-S2 hi-definition digital Satellite TV.
* DVB-S digital Satellite TV.
* Freeview digital Terrestrial TV.
* Analogue PAL/SECAM TV.

How do you want to connect?

The nova 500 is for SD freeview terrestrial broadcasts (HD maybe in 2009, compatibiity unproven)

the other dvb-s2 card is for satelite and you need a dish pointing at the sky sattelite.

Agree single tuners (watch or record) are nowhere as handy as dual cards (watch and record or record 2)

Using a compro T200 atm with vista64 media centre, works great. Holding out for the E700F-Vista edition(comes with mediacentre remoite) to be sold somewhere as I want to upgrade to a dual tuner card. Theres also a voice in the back of my mind telling me I should wait to see if/when the dvb2 cards comeout ready for freeview hd.

In the case of the digital cards, output quality is entirly dependant on the software used. The hardware just decodes the signal and forwards on the mpeg stream data. Media centre with ati avivo assisted deinterlacing looks much nicer then compros own software. Included a smooth 60 fps upscale too. I cant comment on the wintv software.

Well when HD over Freeview does arrive it'll surely be H.264 in which case Vista Media Centre won't support it. Yes there's a hack but it's only for 32-bit at present. Wish MS would wake up to the fact that there's a world outside the US!

What prices do they go for?

do they differ in output quality?

i've got a nova-t and it's far from perfect tbh...

Have you tried DScaler?

I had a Hauppage WinTV card in an old PC which was used as my TV and media centre when I first moved out. The quality of the picture was awful on the supplied software, but nearly perfect on DScaler.

Righto! :D

I've got one dish pointing to receive Freeview and one pointing at the Sky satellite. The wire coming into the room it will be used in is from the Freeview satellite.

So is HD Freeview upcoming in 2009? Which card would be able to receive this if and when this happens... the WinTV-HVR-4000?

I might be wrong, but i`m sure i've herd that the WinTV-HVR-4000 and others like it, being more further proof because of it supporting DVB-S2 standards???
