I'm looking to record my tv and xbox 360 on my computer but I have no idea how these PCI cards work. Could anyone quickly explain and suggest a cheapish option?

Thanks :)

Thanks for reply, but I dont really want to spend too much, I'd say probably £80 max.
I'm also not sure how they work at all, how would I record my TV with it?

Unless you are going to spend more than that you are only going to be able to record low Def stuff. Also means you have to watch it in low def too.

I take it you have a HD TV? I think the hauppauge HD PVR is the best around at the moment. About £150

Also consider the Asus My Cinema. I fitted one in a clients system build last week and though it was excellent. It features dual tuners (analogue and digital) and was £75 off the bay delivered.

This was using Win Media Center and it integrated seamlessly.

I would recommend for PCI the Black Magic Intensity Pro and for usb Hauppauge HDPVR. I currently have the Hauppauge and its great! have a look at some of hauppauge's tv tuners i say they're the best in the business for tv tuners

Providing you have a home premium (or higher) version of windows you will have an application called media centre.

I bought a hauppage nova-t usb stick for my gf to use at uni (a pci version would be ok too). This tuner is recognised in mediacentre and allows you to watch and record tv as well as dvds.

The xbox 360 is also a media extender. This basically means it can be linked to the pc on your network and run the media centre application (providing pc is on) and either use the tuner to watch tv or just watch recorded tv.

I had mine and my bros xbox 360s on my network. He did have an annoying habit of adding shows to record but this just shows how versitile the system is ;p

p.s you can get dual tuner cards so you can watch and record (or record two shows at once), my gfs tv tuner is dual but I've had issues getting it running as a dual tuner in win7. If you dont have media centre then software is supplied to watch tv but not as easy to use as media centre

Hope this answers your question and any you may have had

Thanks very much for that reply honosuseri! I think i may be looking into a USB one now :) so i think i might go for that nova-t usb stick ! thanks! :)
