TV Tuner Card

Hi all,

A bit of advice please. I live in a flat and am wanting a cheap and easy way of watching TV in the bedroom.

I was thinking about buying a cheap 22" TV but have had different thoughts.
Unfortunately there's no access to an external aerial from the bedroom. My main PC is in the bedroom with a 24" monitor... it got me thinking what is the point in having 2 screens in the same room (were pretty limited on space as is) and there must be a decent way of getting TV onto the computer!

Id like something that works with WMC and has remote control functionality.

Only trouble im having is that all reviews seem to suggest that signal is really poor and i would require an external aerial. My TV in the main lounge works fine with a indoor aerial (i just tested it). Is there any reason to think that if i bought a TV tuner card it wouldn't work in the same way?

I had a look at this:-

Seems to-do everything i want it is USB which is quite handy - saves me filling my case up inside. Comes with remote (how do these work BTW surely they aren't IR??)

Any thought or suggestions appreciated.

Hi
If your tv recieves a digital signal with an indoor aerial without any problems then the pc should also work,
Yes the remotes are IR although i have never used one even though ive owned 5 internal pci/pci-e tv cards, due to the first two being a bit rubbish,
the third one was very good but only a single tuner, then i wanted a dual tuner, and now im using a dual DVB-T2 Tuner card for HDTV
Would'nt the usb stick out from the pc and the aerial cable i think plugs into the end of it making it more likely to get knocked and damaged.

hi, thanks for your reply.

Probably makes sense to have a PCI one really.

Seems a bit daft that the remotes are IR as presumably the IR sensor is on the back of the TV Card? Is it relying on bouncing off the wall or something?

I don't want to have to turn my PC backwards just to be able to control TV!! :)

The IR is usually on a cable which plugs into the back of the card and can be placed in a convenient location.

The remote recievers that came with my cards have been usb with a cable so you can position the reciever where you want, no need to turn the pc backwards.
