I have just bene reading through the NTL & Sky Post and it got me thinking why my TV tuner card I have won't work with Sky.

I have a Compro VideoMate TV PVR/FM Card. My sky comes from a Box downstairs and into my card via a cable. There is no signal and I cannot recive Terestrial channels. Is this because I my card will not work with Sky or something I have done Wrong?

Thanks In advance

It wont work through coax, because compro cards are digital. S-video and composite with sky dont work properly, they are extremley blurry, there is something wrong with the outputs on the boxes. So your pretty much out of luck.

Are you sure you can get digital in your area?

Ive tried this as well from a sky box. You need a standard terrestrial tv card to receive the signal from sky box unless you can manually tune with the digital tv card

Even if you can manually tune it still wont work because analogue and digital are completley different types of signals.

Different types of signal

Analogue terrestrial TV > Analogue caputure card or old TV set > RF coax plug, 75ohm coaxial cable from loft aerial.

Digital terrestrial TV, Freeview > DVB-T card or new TV with digital tuner > RF coax plug, F type coax plug. 75ohm coaxial cable from loft aerial.

Digital Satellite, Sky > DVB-S card or STB (set top box). STB connections to TV can be via RF coax, composite (yellow socket), scart or s-video > F type coax plug, 50/75ohm coaxial cable from LNB/Dish.

Analogue video S-Video > 5 pin mini-DIN, luminance (Y) greyscale) and modulated chrominance (C) colour > found on many STB's. Lots of capture Analogue/Digital capture have s-video in as an extra selectable input.

For a satellite signal you need a dvb-s card.

Does your card accept analogue signals? I know there is a Compro Videomate that does both analogue and digital. You would need to use the analogue imput to get anything from the video output from sky box.

If it's any help:

By defualt Sky boxes output on RF channel 68, 850mhz.

This can be changed in the installer menu on the Sky box though :)
