Hey, I've only ever owned a 1080p screen.

Thinking of going for a 65'' 4k LED TV instead of the monitor market.

I'm thinking of grabbing a 1080ti. My question is, for the rare occasion the 1080ti won't be able to 4k/60fps and I need to downgrade to ultrawide or 1440, can a TV upscale it back to 4k or go native 1440?

for example, a samsung KS8000/9000.

Thanks,

I imagine it will vary from unit to unit, but bear in mind that displaying 1440P on a 4K screen would either mean black borders around the edge (the best option in my opinion), or fuzzy graphics, because the pixel scaling isn't correct.

I just tried it (1440p) on my 55" KS8000 and yes, text looks fuzzy... but no borders tho
Your 4K TV doesn't have an option to display DOT By DOT (1:1) in the settings  (it maybe called something else)

I would have expected all 4K TV's to of had this option...

Maybe it does... not that i can find tho. A lot of picture options in the setting menu are greyed out when using the TV as a PC monitor. Someone else might know...

I wouldnt bother. The difference in resolution between 4k and 2560x1440 is such that if you try to use 1:1 pixel mapping you're going to end up with black borders taking up something like a 3rd of the screen. It wont look good. Keep the scaling for games, use 4k for the desktop.

Nvidia control panel (no idea if there's an AMD equivalent) gives you the option to perform the scaling on the GPU, so as far as the TV is concerned it's just displaying a 4k image.
