Tweaking Be Unlimited connection

Speak to Si MPS on here is the best bet, or try to get through to 2nd/3rd level support.

I've got it enabled with 3dB and it's nice on this decent quality phoneline :)

You can also use the DMT tool on the DG834N, not sure about the GT though.
Maybe you will be able to telnet into it and command line it.

How do you do this? Have tried a variety of ports and ips with no luck on mine. No firewalls running either.

You need DMT v8.07 - log in with root/password or admin/password (I'm not sure which, I have custom firmware and I log in with root and my password is what I set as the password to log into the menu pages). IP = IP of router, port = 23.

Right ok, be have enabled fastpast and put me on a 3db snr margin.

Iv plugged router into master BT socket but dont see much difference in sync rate. since be changed the profile my download speeds have dropped to about 800kb/s rather than the 1mb/s i was getting before.

Just for reference, line stats with router plugged into master socket:

...................Downstream Upstream
Sync Rate ..........12763.......1390
Att.............. 23.0 ..............13.1
SNR...............3.3...................3.4

Line plugged into extension socket which it has been for years

Connection Speed........12689 kbps 1317 kbps
Line Attenuation....... 23.0 db 13.1 db
Noise Margin....... 6.5 db 7.0 db

Obviously the noise margin changed because i requested it to be changed.

With those stats, whats the best SNR % to set on the netgear?

EDIT: Just done another speed test, downloading at a nice constant 1.2mb/s but i did notice a disconnect.

OK, took a look at the logs this morning, seems that i may have had a disconnection over night, but the connection re-synced at

14303 kbps
1386 kbps

downloaded the zen test file averaging about 900kb/s - 1000kb/s

Not sure what to do :S

EDIT: Just done another router re-boot, downloading at a constant 1.4MB/Sec, getting there :)

I was given a link about this 'fast path' thing. It confused me though. What does fast path actually do? Increase your sink speed? or decrease ping? I couldn't work it out from the article!

This explains what interleaving does. Fastpath is just interleaving disabled. You should see a reduction in latency, coupled with a reduced tolerance for errors - if your connection is good enough interleaving shouldn't be necessary.

It won't change the speed of your sink though - that's powered by mavity :p

Well we're syncing at 15,000 something down and 1,200 up, on our new O2 box. That's about 1km away from the exchange too. Note, our exchange isn't enabled for 20mb, only 16mb. Not tried gaming yet, so depending what that is like I may get fast path enabled then.

As for my sink, its more the taps I'm worried about. mavity doesn't seem to help them to do any more than a trickle!

You need to find the balance for yourself. If you can live with the line drops then leave it. If you can't then make it more stable. I've sacrificed stability for speed mainly because I have two ISPs here at home and I don't pay for my Be* connection. I just need it to go as fast as it can go while it lasts :)

Well iv tested it for 2 days after they changed my SNR to 3db. Speedwise seems ok, 1.3-1.4MB/s is not something to complain about really. When i remote in using PCAnywhere, it seems ok but then the session disconnects all the time, after this happens i check the router to see if its the router that dropped the connection but it still says a decent uptime. Im not sure.

Might just get them to put me back upto 6db SNR unless there is some other tweaking i can do. Is it worth changing the SNR % which is currently at 100% to something else?

EDIT: on that note iv just logged onto my router and it seems now that my downstream SNR is 5.9db? whats that all about?

Noise Margin 5.9 db 3.3 db

I didnt request a change, or does it auto train it?

It depends on the weather :)
(Amongst other things that I haven't bothered to look up, it's normal that your SNR fluctuates though.)

ill give it a week or two to trial run it. If i keep getting remote disconnections its going to have to go back up as i need to connect remotely without disconnections.
