So my cousin mentioned over a match of Cs:Go that his laptop wasn't up to scratch and was toying with the idea of spending some of his hard earned student finance on an upgrade!
Being the ever helpful pc enthusiast that i am i was happy to oblige!
So the three key points that he stipulated were,
1. Had to be reasonably transportable for when he comes home from uni
2. Had to be capable of running current AAA titles at 60fps or better on ultra
3. Had to be in a budget of £600-£700
So with quite a tight budget we struggled to get everything in and keep it balanced, and i may have chosen wrong on some of these but there IS method in my madness or at least i think there is!
So parts are as follows,
Intel Core i5-4690K
Nice solid quad core, decent price and nice speed at stock, overclockable in the future
MSI Radeon R9 270X Gaming Edition OC 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
Really good value for money and not a bad performer, should last at least a year maybe two
MSI Z97 Gaming 3 Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard
Love this board, all the bells and whistles we could need and not breaking the bank!
Corsair RM Series RM 550 '80+ Gold' 550W Power Supply
Ive used Corsair psu's in my last 3 build so ive become a bit of a fan boy!
Kingston HyperX 8GB (2x4GB) PC3-17100C11 2133MHz Dual Channel Kit
Enough ram for the time being and he could always stick a couple more sticks in later on
Seagate SSHD 7200RPM 3.5" 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST1000DX001) SSHD Hybrid Drive
I really wanted a SSD for the OS and he really wanted at least 1Tb of storage so to meet in the middle and to keep in budget this seemed like a good idea
BitFenix Comrade Midi-Tower
I don't know if you guys are the same but if you wander down to the budget end of the pc cases your likely to lose you lunch! lol there are some awful looking cases at this price range but for the price these BF jobbies look the nuts!
Cherry Evolution Stream XT Corded Keyboard - White
And he also wanted a low profile keyboard and at the price and being white especially this was a bargain!
So things were making do with!
No Bling as of yet just couldn't waste the budget on non essential stuff
At stock speeds the stock cpu heatsink will cope fine so when overclocking becomes required we can look at a better heatsink
More Storage
More Ram
And possible crossfire action in future
So as soon as we get a nice parcel from OcUk ill get some pics up! until then,
Thanks for reading!
