I woke up to find my g/f's Twitter account was sending spam.

"Stay at home moms earn $550p/w" etc with links to click.

She logged on to her account via the website and it does indeed show she has sent these messages. I'm assuming that someone/something has got her password.

Does this mean there is a good chance of bugs on her laptop? Strangely enough i was going to format and do a complete re-install this weekend because she was complaining it was running slowly and i thought after years of abuse it might just be better to have a clean install.

I keep an eye on her machine (admittedly not as well as i do with mine) so i thought she would be reasonably secure. She runs,

Windows Vista Home Basic (pre-installed).
Microsoft Security Essentials.
Everything gets updated as and when the pop-ups appear.

My main concern is she does a lot of shopping online.

doesn't always mean the machine is infected...could have been a kisok machine she logged into, computer at a college/work etc or just a very weak password (my ex had 'love' as her email password

As above, change all passwords...scan the machine with an online virus scanner to be safe

It's one of the netbots - the guy from click tweeted it earlier this morning.
